Four S4 biology students from our school participated in the Agar Art Contest 2023 (Hong Kong division). Agar art is an innovative form of art that uses agar plates as canvases and transgenic colored bacteria as paints to create microbial artwork under optimal cultivation. The theme for this year's competition was "Microbiology in Space." Our students wrote a design concept and drew sketches of their artwork before the competition. They stood out among numerous participating teams and received the Merit Award in the Senior Secondary Section, in recognition of their unconventional creativity.
In our school, senior form biology students learn about the principles of creating transgenic microorganisms and the application of aseptic techniques in transferring and cultivating microorganisms. They also conduct experiments involving bacterial transformation. The aim is to enhance students' interest in biotechnology and STEAM education.
