From November 6 to 8, 2024, 140 Senior Secondary (S5) students and teachers from our school participated in the "Citizenship and Social Development: Huizhou and Shenzhen Historical Culture and Sustainable Development Mainland Study Tour." This immersive experience allowed students to explore the nation's cultural preservation and technological advancements. Key highlights of the itinerary included visits to the Dongpo Memorial Temple(東坡祠), West Lake (西湖), and ancient city (古城牆) walls in Huizhou, where students gained insights into local historical and cultural conservation efforts. The tour also featured explorations of Huizhou's Shuidong Street (水東街) and Shenzhen's Gankeng Ancient Town (甘坑小鎮), offering students a firsthand experience of the integration of traditional culture and modern development. Additionally, students visited the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall(東江縱隊紀念館) in Shenzhen to learn about the history of the Anti-Japanese War and the importance of national security. The students also engaged with 3D printing innovation technology, witnessing the nation's leading position in the field of technological advancement.
The centerpiece of the study tour was the visit to the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base. Our students had the privilege of being the first student group in secondary education to visit the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station. During the inauguration ceremony, representatives from the Education Bureau and corporate leaders delivered speeches, providing students with a deeper understanding of the role of nuclear energy in achieving the nation's carbon reduction goals. Following the ceremony, students and teachers toured around the Nuclear Energy Technology Exhibition Hall, where they experienced the safety and advanced technology of the nuclear power plant firsthand. This visit highlighted the critical role of nuclear energy in sustainable development and emphasized the importance of nuclear safety.
Through this study tour, students not only deepened their understanding of the nation's historical culture and technological progress but also enhanced their sense of national identity and environmental awareness. This experience allowed students to witness the nation's advancements and responsibilities firsthand, inspiring them to apply their learning in the future and become globally minded citizens with a strong sense of social responsibility.
